Celebrating Breastfeeding in Our Community
On behalf of La Leche League of New York-East, I would like to invite you to attend the 2008 Healthcare Provider Seminar and Breastfeeding
and Parenting Conference, “Empower Our Children, Shape the World.” A satisfying weekend of enrichment in a family-friendly atmosphere
awaits you.
I am pleased and excited that all of the professional continuing education sessions are being presented by La Leche League
Leaders.
- This year we are offering new and exciting programs for families, while keeping high-caliber sessions for returning attendees and the
healthcare provider community.
- These include a comprehensive father’s experience that offers a session at each time slot specifically geared to fathers. Frequently,
fathers attending the conference are also responsible for the care of young children, so we will be providing a toddler play area in those
sessions.
- Another new feature is the Father’s Family Funtime Party—an interactive bonanza of fun for fathers and their children. Other non-
Leader conference attendees are welcome to join the fun.
- The drop-off Children’s Activity Area will allow for some families to more fully enjoy the weekend.
- An early afternoon Pool Party for children and adults will accommodate parents whose children need to turn in early. There will be lifeguards,
snacks, and games to play.
- Finally we are offering a movie night with a major motion picture appropriate for the family. Parents can attend a session or enjoy the
movie with their children. Popcorn will be served!
I am most excited for Leaders this year that we are offering the Leader Enrichment Workshop (News You Can Use) on Friday night for FREE,
followed by a dessert mixer! This has long been my favorite portion of the conference. I think it is the best source of information to help the
average La Leche League Leader fulfill her basic responsibility to keep up-to-date. This session offers relevant updates and reports from all
Area Departments, some of which affect the day to day operation of our Local Groups. The Professional Liaison Department gives brief, but
through explanations of current breastfeeding research, which may affect every mother-to-mother helping situation we perform.
If you are a Leader you won’t want to miss this!

Traci Meiler, Area Conference Supervisor
